Good deal: 40GB for $49.95 no contract from OVO

Prepaid provider OVO mobile has added massive data increases to all its plans at no extra cost. This includes a boost of the $49.95 X Large plan from 20GB to 40GB.

The data increases are available to both new and existing customers, which means if you're already with OVO mobile, you just got a tonne more data for free.

OVO prepaid mobile plans have undergone the following changes:

Small Plan ($19.95) was 2GB, now 4GB
Medium Plan ($29.95) was 6GB, now 10GB
Large Plan ($34.95) was 15GB, now 25GB
X Large Plan ($49.95) was 20GB, now 40GB

If you're an existing customer, you have until the end of January 2019 to opt in to the data increase, which can be done by logging in to your account on the OVO website. If you're a new customer, check out full details of the plans below:

It's worth noting, however, that the OVO Mobile plans, while great value, don't offer the best data for dollar value in any data category except for 25GB. There are still better prepaid and postpaid SIM-only deals to be had from the likes of TeleChoice, Jeenee Mobile, Exetel and in some cases even Optus and Vodafone. The big data increase from OVO Mobile is just the latest in a series of massive data increases we've seen from a range of providers over the past few months including from Telstra prepaid, amaysim, Optus prepaid and Boost Mobile.

"It's times like this when it's very easy to see why prepaid mobile phone plans are the smart option in this country," said OVO founder and CEO Matt Jones. "Particularly when the provider regularly delivers no-cost data package increases."

We note that having a prepaid or no contract SIM only plan also makes it easy to switch providers when a better deal comes along, as in this market they often do.

OVO Mobile plans run on the Optus 4G network and come with data-free streaming of the OVOPlay sports service which features gymnastics, waterpolo, sailing, motorsports and esports.

OVO Mobile plans also come with a free one device subscription to FamilyZone cyber safety software valued at $59.40. FamilyZone helps you manage your child's screen time, social media time and screens inappropriate content online.
