- Frequently asked questions about phone plans with international calls
More than just the major mobile providers in Australia offer phone plans with international calls included, but comparing these options isn’t as simple as it is if all you care about is data or coverage in your local area.
Just because Optus offers unlimited international calls to more countries than some of the alternatives doesn’t necessarily mean it offers the ones that matter most to you. If you’re happy with a standard SIM-only postpaid plan or would prefer to go prepaid, that can also limit your options when it comes to mobile plans that let you phone home.
All of this is to say that finding a phone plan with international calls in Australia is easy, but choosing the right one is a little more difficult. To make things easier and cut through, we’ve rounded up what each provider in our database that offers international calls offers to help you find the right fit for your budget and needs.
Without any further ado, here's a detailed breakdown of the best mobile providers in our database to look at when shopping for mobile plans with international calls. Not only do these suppliers offer a heap of international calling minutes with most plans, they also offer great local data inclusions plus unlimited national talk and text.
Almost every phone plan with international calls limits your use to "selected countries". And those countries can vary a lot from plan to plan. Below, we've got a list of countries each provider will allow you to call on your plan. To see countries that you're interested in, use the 'Find on Page' function in your web browser. Hit 'Control + F' on a Windows PC or 'Command + F' on a Mac and enter the name of the country.

Frequently asked questions about phone plans with international calls
What is the cheapest way to make international calls from Australia?
The cheapest way to make international calls from Australia is to use a messaging app instead. You might have to coordinate with your relatives to get on the same page but platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger or Discord will all let you make overseas calls via VoIP (voice-over-IP) at a price that’s measured in gigabytes rather than dollars – which will typically save you money compared to what you’d be paying for a phone plan with international calls.
Which mobile network is best for international calls?
Telstra isn’t cheap, but that premium does come with the perk of offering the most countries when it comes to international calls. This provider’s mobile plans come with Unlimited SMS from Australia to standard international numbers in all destinations and 30 minutes of calls from Australia to any standard overseas number as standard. If that’s not enough for you, this provider also offers unlimited international calls in over one hundred destinations via a series of add-ons that start at $10/month.
Does ALDI offer international calls?
ALDI Mobile does offer international calls but the amount included in a given plan and the list of countries you can dial out to varies. As a baseline, this provider’s mobile plans come with unlimited calls and texts to twenty countries. Then, you get another 400 minutes of calls and texts to another 30 countries on top of that. However, some of those destinations do come with a restriction – you can only call landline numbers.
