WhistleOut Australia : Editorial Ethics

At WhistleOut Australia, our mission is to simplify complex purchasing decisions and help Australians make confident choices. Because our recommendations may influence where you spend your money, we're transparent about how we make money and how our recommendations are formed.

1. Editorial Independence & Commercial Relationships

WhistleOut operates as a comparison platform and publisher. While we have commercial partnerships with phone, internet, and consumer tech providers, our editorial team operates independently from our commercial arm.

Product rankings in our organic comparison tables and recommendation guides are determined by value, features, and performance, not by commercial agreements.

When we publish advertiser-funded content, it is labelled as Sponsored or Promoted at the top of the page. Sponsored content is produced separately and does not reflect the views or endorsement of the WhistleOut editorial team.

2. Review Methodology

Our reviews and product recommendations are based on real-world hands-on testing, technical analysis, and price-to-value comparisons.

Each category of product or service we evaluate is measured against an agreed-upon testing and comparison matrix designed specifically for that category. Read more about how we review products here.

Telcos and device manufacturers frequently loan us hardware (such as smartphones, headphones, and networking hardware) for testing. These items are provided on loan and are returned upon completion of testing or archived for future testing and comparison.

3. Accuracy, Fact-Checking, and Live Data

Every article undergoes a sub-editing process before publication to verify the facts written by the author. All pricing information is audited several times each week by our product management team.

Telco plan pricing, speed tiers, and data allowances change frequently. While our interactive comparison tables automatically update with the latest information from our product database, copy written within an article reflects facts at the time of writing. Articles display a Last Updated date at the top so you know how recent the written analysis is.

4. Updates Policy & Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When errors occur, we correct them promptly and transparently. If you notice a factual error or outdated detail in our coverage, please contact our team at [email protected] with a link to the page requiring our attention and a description of the error.

Typos or minor layout fixes that do not alter the facts of a story are corrected directly without formal notice.

If an error alters key facts, pricing, or product ratings, we correct the article promptly and add a clear correction notice at the start of the article detailing what was changed and why.

5. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

WhistleOut’s news, reviews, guides, and opinion pieces are written, edited, and verified by our team of journalists. We do not use generative AI to author content on WhistleOut.

Where automated tools or algorithms are used to process public pricing data for comparison tables, the final analysis and consumer advice are always reviewed by our editorial team.

6. Journalist Conflicts of Interest & Travel Policy

To prevent any perception of bias, WhistleOut journalists are prohibited from having financial interests in the specific telecommunication or tech companies they regularly cover.

Editorial team members may not perform paid consulting or promotional work for brands within the telco and consumer technology sectors.

On occasion, WhistleOut journalists accept travel and accommodation contributions to attend product launches and industry events. Accepting travel support does not guarantee coverage or a favourable review. All travel contributions are disclosed at the end of the relevant article.
