This year's iPhone launch was a bit different than usual. While we got an iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple has yet to launch a successor to the iPhone Air. As such, the iPhone Air will still be the go to for anyone looking for Apple's thinnest non-folding phone.
In this guide, we'll look at plans, deals, pricing, and key features for the iPhone Air.
iPhone Air plans
The Phone Air is available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, although Optus is currently listing the iPhone Air as out of stock. It is not clear whether Optus will range the iPhone Air again.
All three providers give you the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayment terms. A 24-month term means you own your iPhone Air faster, while a 36-month term results in a cheaper monthly bill. Vodafone also recently started offering 48-month repayment terms, for those looking for an even cheaper bill.

As such, we're still listing their launch pricing here. You should be able to find them cheaper, however.
iPhone Air features

iPhone Air design
The iPhone Air replaced the "Plus" model in Apple's 2025 iPhone lineup, and as the name may suggest, it's pretty damn thin. It measures in at 5.6mm at its slimmest point, and weighs just 165 grams. It's even slimmer than Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge.
The iPhone Air features a 6.5-inch display with an anti-reflective coating, a 120Hz refresh rate, and always-on, which Plus models didn't have. It's Apple's only titanium phone in the 2025 range, and is protected with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back. Ceramic Shield 2 is said to be three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.

iPhone Air camera
The iPhone Air has a single 48MP "fusion" camera on the back. This doubles as both a primary lens and a 2x optical zoom lens.
Like other 2025 iPhone models, the iPhone Air has an 18MP selfie camera. Dubbed the "Center Stage" camera, this is backed by an unusual square sensor. This enables landscape selfie photos while still holding the phone vertically, and face tracking when making video calls.

iPhone Air battery
The iPhone Air has the smallest battery out of any 2025 iPhone model, but Apple says it is still able to get up to 28 hours of video playback per charge. In our testing, we found the iPhone Air battery was just okay.
You should be able to get at least 4.5 hours of screen time per charge, which is a full day, but with almost no buffer. Depending on your usage, you might be able to get an hour or so more each charge.
Apple is also selling a new slim MagSafe Battery accessory for the iPhone Air. This will set you back $159, but will take the battery life to up to 40 hours of video playback. Naturally, the MagSafe Battery does add some bulk to the back of the phone.
iPhone Air processor
The iPhone Air is powered by an A19 Pro chipset with five GPU cores.
iPhone Air eSIM
The iPhone Air doesn't take a physical SIM card; instead, you need an eSIM.
eSIM (an electronic SIM or embedded SIM) is a rewritable SIM card that’s built directly into the phone. It never leaves your phone. Instead, you simply download a "software SIM" from your provider of choice.
Apple has been shipping phones with eSIM support since 2018, and telco support in Australia is pretty robust. Out of the 30 mobile providers in WhistleOut's database, 21 currently offer eSIM plans. You'll need a plan from one of these providers if you don't plan on buying your iPhone Air on a plan from Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone. Here's a summary of your options:

iPhone Air 5G
The iPhone Air naturally has 5G connectivity. WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

iPhone Air plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all offering the iPhone Air on a plan. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra iPhone Air plans
Telstra iPhone plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your iPhone off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Telstra still has Australia's largest mobile network, covering over 2.14 million square kilometres. In addition, Telstra has a partnership with Starlink operator SpaceX, allowing you to send text messages and use select apps via satellite when mobile coverage is unavailable. A clear view of the sky is needed for this.
Telstra is the only telco in Australia to still have a rewards program. As a customer, you earn points for every dollar spent with Telstra, which can then be redeemed for discounts on new tech.
Optus iPhone Air plans
Optus iPhone plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
If you're an Optus mobile customer, you can save $15 per month on an NBN or 5G internet plan if you add one to the same account. This discount only lasts for 12 months, however.
Vodafone iPhone Air plans
Vodafone iPhone plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
In addition to 12-, 24-month, and 36-month repayment terms, Vodafone now also offers 48-month options for customers looking for a cheaper bill in exchange for an even longer commitment.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps. You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
Thanks to a network sharing agreement with Optus, Vodafone's network coverage is now practically identical to Optus' when it comes to 4G.
How to choose the best iPhone Air plan for you
There are a few key factors to keep in mind when choosing your iPhone Air plan:
- Answering "how much mobile data do I use" can help you avoid overspending. Don't pay for more data than you need
- Decide whether you want to pay off your phone shorter on a 24-month plan or get a smaller bill over a longer period of time on a 36-month plan
- If you're a frequent overseas traveller, consider any international roaming inclusions
- You may also want to make international phone calls so check if the destinations you may be calling are included in your plan
