iPhone 17 Pro Max plans
The Phone 17 Pro Max is still available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone. All three providers offer the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayment terms. A 24-month term means you own your iPhone 17 Pro Max faster, while a 36-month term brings down your monthly cost.

iPhone 17 Pro Max features

iPhone 17 Pro Max design
The back of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is the biggest aesthetic change to iPhone since the iPhone X, with the new handset featuring a much larger camera "plateau" and a build that combines aluminium and glass.
The majority of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is built from aluminium rather than titanium, like recent models, while a Ceramic Shield glass panel still enables wireless charging. When combined with a new vapour chamber, Apple says the aluminium unibody allows for better heat management, which in turn enables higher sustained performance.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max still has a 6.9-inch display, as with the last model, but there's a new anti-reflective coating similar to that on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and improved Ceramic Shield 2 protection. Apple says Ceramic Shield 2 is three times more scratch-resistant than the previous version.

iPhone 17 Pro Max camera
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has three 48MP cameras: a 48MP primary lens, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a new 48MP telephoto lens with 8x optical zoom. The new 48MP telephoto lens replaces the 12MP 5x zoom lens from 2024's models.
As with the other 2025 models, the iPhone 17 Pro Max now has an 18MP selfie camera, up from 12MP in previous years. Dubbed the "Center Stage" camera, this is backed by an unusual square sensor. This enables landscape selfie photos while still holding the phone vertically, and face tracking when making video calls.

iPhone 17 Pro Max battery
The iPhone 17 Pro Max got a bump in battery this time. Apple says the device can achieve 37 hours of video playback on a single charge, up from 33 in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. In our testing, we were able to achieve between seven and nine hours of screen time per charge, which should be enough for two days of moderate use.
iPhone 17 Pro Max processor
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is powered by an Apple-made A19 Pro chipset with six GPU cores. Thanks to its new thermal design and new chipset, Apple say the iPhone 17 Pro family can offer up to 40% better sustained performance than the iPhone 16 Pro.
iPhone 17 Pro Max eSIM
US iPhone models haven't had a physical SIM since the iPhone 14, and relied on eSIM. The iPhone 17 Pro Max still has a physical SIM card on top of eSIM, however.
eSIM (an electronic SIM or embedded SIM) is a rewritable SIM card that’s built directly into the phone. It never leaves your phone. Instead, you simply download a "software SIM" from your provider of choice.
iPhone 17 Pro Max 5G
The iPhone 17 Pro Max naturally has 5G connectivity. WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

iPhone 17 Pro Max plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra iPhone 17 Pro Max plans
Telstra iPhone plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your iPhone off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Telstra still has Australia's largest mobile network, covering over 2.14 million square kilometres. In addition, Telstra has a partnership with Starlink operator SpaceX, allowing you to send text messages and use select apps via satellite when mobile coverage is unavailable. A clear view of the sky is needed for this.Telstra is the only telco in Australia to still have a rewards program. As a customer, you earn points for every dollar spent with Telstra, which can then be redeemed for discounts on new tech.
Optus iPhone 17 Pro Max plans
Optus iPhone plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
If you're an Optus mobile customer, you can save $15 per month on an NBN or 5G internet plan if you add one to the same account. This discount only lasts for 12 months, however.
Vodafone iPhone 17 Pro Max plans
Vodafone iPhone plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
Thanks to a network sharing agreement with Optus, Vodafone's network coverage is now practically identical to Optus' when it comes to 4G.
How to choose the best iPhone 17 Pro Max plan for you
There are a few key factors to keep in mind when choosing your iPhone 17 Pro Max plan:
- Answering "how much mobile data do I use" can help you avoid overspending. Don't pay for more data than you need
- Decide whether you want to pay off your phone shorter on a 24-month plan or get a smaller bill over a longer period of time on a 36-month plan
- If you're a frequent overseas traveller, consider any international roaming inclusions
- You may also want to make international phone calls so check if the destinations you may be calling are included in your plan
