Telstra has just overhauled its 28-day expiry prepaid plans and added a heap more monthly data, increased the limit on data banking to 200GB and added a 10GB data bank bonus on the first five recharges for new customers.
Telstra Prepaid Max plans, previously known as Telstra Prepaid Extra plans, have just undergone the following changes in data inclusions:
- $30 plan now comes with 8GB, up from 2.5GB
- $40 plan now comes 18GB, up from 5GB
- $50 plan now comes with 28GB, up from 7.5GB
- $60 plan now comes with 38GB, up from 10GB
That brings Telstra prepaid data inclusions more closely into line with plans from prepaid competitors Optus, amaysim and Boost Mobile, although these providers are still ahead of Telstra in terms of data for dollar value. For example, a $30 recharge with Optus or amaysim prepaid will get you 10GB, while a $30 recharge with Boost Mobile will get you 12GB:
However, Telstra is also offering new Telstra Prepaid Max customers a 10GB data bank bonus on their first five recharges*. And that data is likely to stack up a whole lot higher over time now that the Telstra has increased its prepaid data bank cap from 100GB to 200GB.
The Telstra data bank allows customers to keep unused data for future use, provided they recharge with $30+ every month before expiry. Data stored in your Telstra data bank does not expire unless you switch to another plan.
The increase on the prepaid data bank cap puts Telstra nearly at the head of the market pack in terms of data banking allowances, beaten only by Belong Mobile which offers unlimited data banking. Other carriers that currently offer data rollover include:
- Optus prepaid – indefinite data rollover up to 50GB on Epic Data and Epic Value plans, when you recharge before expiry
- Woolworths prepaid – indefinite data rollover up to 30GB, when you recharge before expiry
- Boost mobile – data rollover for use within the next recharge period, when you recharge before expiry
Telstra Prepaid Max plans also include data-free streaming of Apple Music, access to the Telstra Air network of over one million WiFi hotspots across Australia and over 19 million WiFi hotspots overseas, as well as live data-free streaming of AFL, NRL, Netball and Hyundai A-League games.
All Telstra Prepaid Max plans come with a 28 day expiry on recharges and recharges of $40+ come with unlimited standard international calls to Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, UK and USA.
* Make your first recharge before February 25 2019 and last before June 30 2019 to redeem the offer.
