Tangerine is the latest in a string of telcos to increase mobile plan prices. The Telstra-powered provider has upped the price of most of its plans by between $2.10 and $3.10 per month, but in most cases, has added in a little extra data.
The price change is already in effect for new customers, but new customers won't be stung by the increase until their first bill in October.
Here is how Tangerine's mobile plan pricing is changing:
Plans from $33 and up have 5G connectivity, but most plans have their speeds capped to 100Mbps. The one exception is the top-end 150GB plan, which has a faster 250Mbps speed cap. Here are the new plans: In an email sent to customers, Tangerine effectively blamed Telstra for the price rise. "Our network provider recently bumped up [its] prices, and we're also feeling the impact of business costs that keep rising," said Tangerine in the email. "This has been a difficult decision, but it's crucial for us to keep providing you with top-notch service, so we have to make a few adjustments along the way." Given Tangerine is powered by the Telstra network, it wouldn't be surprising to see other Telstra-powered providers increase prices sooner or later. Telstra, Belong, and Boost Mobile all increased their prices in July, while Everyday Mobile (the telco formally known as Woolworths Mobile) ditched some of its cheaper postpaid plans as part of its rebrand. Here's how Tangerine compares to SIM-only plans on the Telstra network with at least 30GB: Of course, price rises haven't been limited to the Telstra network. Optus MVNO Aussie Broadband and Vodafone MVNO felix mobile both also upped their mobile plan costs this month. |
