Customers on several providers using the Telstra network are in for an exciting surprise this month, with 4G network upgrades rolling out during April.
So far supermarket providers Woolworths and ALDImobile have confirmed that the changes are coming.
“During the month of April 2016 we're rolling out 4G to all our customers who have a compatible device. You don't need to do anything - it will happen automatically! With 4G you'll get faster average data speeds in 4G coverage areas.” reads the information on the Woolworth’s site.
“ALDImobile brings more value to its customers as we upgrade all ALDImobile customers to 4G. We will be gradually migrating customers over the next 4 weeks so you may notice that your phone is able to pick up the 4G network if your handset is 4G capable,” reads a similar message on the Aldi site.
Fellow Telstra network providers Telechoice, MeU Mobile and CMobile are yet to confirm an upgrade, but Telstra has committed to upgrading the service to 4G for all of its wholesale partners by the end of June.
Sit, wait and see
The best part of the announcement for ALDI and Woolworth’s customers is that there is nothing they need to do to get the faster speeds.
The network upgrade will happen behind the scenes and will be rolled out to customers over the next 4 weeks. All you have to do is sit and wait. One day soon you will look down at your phone and the 4G icon will be on the information bar and you will be connected.
That is, of course, only for customers that are using 4G capable handsets. Most new phones sold in Australia today are 4G ready, but some cheaper models may not be. We list this information on WhistleOut, but if you can’t find your phone in our database (we only show currently available models), then Google is your friend for finding this information.
