Why Woolworths Mobile?
Woolworths Mobile, like the other supermarket phone brands, is a great middle ground between the major telcos we all have experience with, and the numerous unknown phone service providers which offer great value plans, but without the surety of a brand we're comfortable dealing with.
There are major advantages to choosing a phone plan with a company that isn't one of the major operators, namely the price of the plans, so you'll be glad to know that you'll find similarly good value with Woolies.
But unlike a number of the smaller providers, Woolworths Mobile also offers a great range of new smartphones and the option to buy these phones outright or on 24- or 36 month repayment terms, whichever suits your budget best.
There are a few key benefits to being a Woolworths Mobile customer, too. Firstly, you get access to parts of the excellent Telstra 4G network, so you can be sure to get a good signal with a Woolworths SIM card, even if you travel around the country. Secondly, Woolworths Mobile offers a 'zero bill shock promise' which makes sure you don't pay more than you agree to pay. No surprise automatic data top-ups. You stay in control.
In addition, you can now save on your grocery bill if you're a Woolworth Mobile customer. On the second weekend of every month, you can save 10% on your shop, up to a maximum saving of $50. This offer is open to both prepaid and postpaid customers, but only applies to your first shop of the eligible weekend in any given month.
Types of Woolworths Mobile Phone Plans
Woolworths Mobile offers three types of phone plan, and which you choose will depend on whether you need a new phone, or not.
If you already own a your own phone, you have the choice of a Woolworths Mobile SIM Only or Prepaid plan.
SIM Only plans come in four flavours: Extra Small, Small, Medium and Large. The plans are similar in most respects, but with the larger options including more data..
Prepaid plans start from $10 per month. All $10 and above recharge options include unlimited calls and messages, mobile data, and data rollover, which lets you save unused data for a later time.
If you're looking to get your hands on a new smartphone, Woolworths has a decent range of handsets to choose from, including some of the best new Samsung phones. The phone plans are split into two parts: you choose your plan and then choose your phone. What this means is that you don't sign a plan contract and you can leave for a different provider at anytime.
You will need to sign a commitment if you want to pay it off the new phone in instalments, either over 24 or 36 months. These are interest-free payments, Woolworths simply takes the retail price of the phone and divides it into 24 or 36 even payments.
How to switch to Woolworths Mobile
Getting what you need to switch to a new Woolworths Mobile plan is pretty straightforward. You can either sign up online and have a new SIM card and phone posted to you, or you can pick up a starter pack in store.
Changing your mobile phone provider can seem a little daunting. We often get asked about how long it takes, whether you can keep your number, and when exactly your number changes hands. The good news is that it is very easy to change telco in Australia, and laws exist that protect your right to switch and ensure you always keep your phone number.
Your number is held by your provider, but only as long as you allow them to. If you want to swap to Woolworths Mobile, your old carrier will automatically relinquish your number and transfer it to Woolworths Mobile when you activate your new service.
Here's the process:
- Find the Woolworths Mobile plan you're after and sign up online or in-store.
- When signing up, you'll be asked whether you want to 'port' or transfer your current number to your new account. Simply put in your number and specify your existing provider.
- After you receive your SIM card (if you order online), you'll need to activate it. Doing this begins the process of transferring your number.
Note that your old service will keep working until porting is completed. This typically takes somewhere between a couple of minutes and an hour or two, but there's cases where it can take a day or if not longer. You'll typically know your Woolworths Mobile plan is live when your previous service stops working.
SIM cards store very little information these days, which means all of your contacts, phone numbers, emails and photos are either on your phone or in the cloud. Switching to Woolworths Mobile will not delete any of your personal information from your device.

What happens if I want to leave my Woolworths Mobile plan?
If you want to leave Woolworths Mobile, you may need to pay an early exit fee. If you've signed a 12-month contract and it isn't over, the early exit fee is equal to half your monthly bill multiplied by the number of months left in your contract.
If you buy a new smartphone through Woolworths and choose to pay it off in instalments, you'll need to pay the remaining balance for the phone when you cancel your service.
This doesn't apply to Woolworths Mobile prepaid plans. If you're on a prepaid plan, you can leave whenever.
What happens if I go over my monthly data allowance?
When you reach your data limit on an Woolworths Mobile plan, the data service is blocked until you recharge your account. When you reach the limit you have the option to buy an Add-On and get extra data to use for the rest of the month (which will rollover on certain plans).What network is Woolworths Mobile powered by?
Woolworths Mobile uses parts of the Telstra 4G network. By parts, we mean most but not all of the Telstra network footprint. All of the major cities and regional centres are covered by this signal, but you might not get coverage from an Woolworths service in rural parts of the country where a Telstra signal is available.
What kind of SIM cards does Woolworths use?
Woolworths Mobile SIM cards come in nano SIM, micro SIM, and mini SIM sizes. This should cover any phone you currently own.
Does Woolworths Mobile still have a 2G network?
Woolworths Mobile no longer providers 2G services. You'll need a 3G or 4G smartphone to connect to Woolworths Mobile.
