Versa 2, the latest fitness tracker smartwatch hybrid from Fitbit is now available locally, with prices starting at $329.95 for the "core" model.
The Versa 2 is essentially a fitness tracker with some light smartwatch functionality, including notification mirroring, Spotify integration, and mobile payments. The biggest changes this time around include Alexa integration, and a sleeker design paired with a better screen (that happens to have an optional always-on mode like the Apple Watch Series 5).
Alexa integration is arguably the Versa 2's most interesting new feature. Holding the side button fires up Alexa, which then acts similar to how you'd expect an Echo device to work. You can set alarms, check the weather, ask about your fitness metrics, reply to texts (on Android only), and control your smart home if you've already got one set up.
As with other Fitbit devices, the Versa 2's battery life is measured in days, rather than hours; Fitbit says you should get over six days per charge. This, of course, facilitates sleep tracking, which has been enhanced with a simplified "Sleep Score" to give you an easier-to-understand way to quantify just how well you're hitting the pillow.
The Versa 2 also has smart alarm functionality built in. Rather than setting a specific time, you'll specify a broader window, say, between 6.30am and 7am. If at all possible, the Versa 2 will then wake you when you're in a lighter sleeping phase to help you feel more rested.
Launching alongside the Versa 2 is Fitbit Premium, a new paid membership service that provides personalised, actionable guidance to help subscribers reach fitness goals. This includes personalised workouts and deeper insights based on your activity data. Fitbit Premium is billed at $14.99 per month or $129.99 for a year.
If you pick up the special edition of the Versa 2, priced at $379.95, you'll get a 90-day free trial of Fitbit Premium.
