Vodafone today announced a new ‘sumo-sized’ Red Plan will be added to its current range, and that the new plan will come with 20GB for customers who act quickly.
Set to launch on September 9 (the day before Apple’s new iPhone announcement - wink, wink), the new $130 Red Plan includes the huge 20GB mentioned above, unlimited calls and messages, and the same excellent features and benefits included in all Vodafone Red Plans. Customers need to sign up for 24-months, and can choose a phone to pair with the plan.
The 20GB promotion runs until 3 November, after which the data in the plan reverts to a still-massive 15GB. Vodafone is claiming ‘Australia’s largest smartphone data offer’, and this certainly holds true, both with the bonus data and without.
For the sake of comparisons, it worth noting that Virgin and Optus both have current offers with 15GB of data in the plan. Both of these are SIM Only plans, so you need to BYO phone, and the Optus $80 SIM Only plan can only be bought online.
This isn’t a true apples for apples comparison, as the new Vodafone plans includes a subsidised smartphone, but it is interesting to see this trend beyond large data inclusions, towards super-sized ones.
Also, if you’re in the market for massive data, remember that all the telcos have data packs that can be bolted on to plans. For example, if you sign up for a Vodafone $30 SIM Only Red Plan and add a12GB data pack ($65 per month) you get 13GB, and all the same inclusions listed above, for $95 per month. Again, there is no phone included here, but it is a round-about way of getting your hands on a lot of mobile data, which you can then share with your family in a Shared Plan.
