Vodafone today introduce several significant changes to its core Red plans, with a focus on higher data inclusions and better family sharing options.

The telco’s Red Plan range changes quite a bit. There is now just four Postpaid plans; $40, $60, $80 and $100 plan price options. All include RED Plan benefits, including a subscription to Spotify, Stan or the Sydney Morning Herald; $5 per day international roaming, and unlimited international calls to 10 countries.

These plan benefits are also included in SIM Only Red Plans, which start from $30 per month and include a $50 price tier.

To make way for these new plans, Vodafone has cut a number of plans from its previous line-up. There is no $45 or $70 price options, and no plans without the Red Plan benefits. All plans that did not include unlimited calls and SMS have likewise been removed.

Share and share alike

Another major revision is that all plans can now be included as a Shared Plan option. Previously customers could add unique plans designed for sharing, but going forward these will be replaced by any plan in the new range.

One major advantage of this new approach is that all elements of these plans are shareable. Included data is a given, but the Vodafone Shared Plans will also pool included standard international calling minutes. Most of the new plans come with 120-minutes worth of calls to 70-countries (on top of unlimited calls to the 10 most called countries) and these minutes can be used by all parties in the Shared Plans.

As a bonus, the shared data pool will have 500MB added to it for every plan that is bundled, regardless of the plan’s value. This means a family of four will have a bonus 2GB per month, on top of the data included in each individual plan, if all four plans are part of the same Shared account.

In addition to more data, families in Shared plans will have greater control over who is using data. An update to the MyVodafone app and portal will soon have a toggle to switch data on and off per user. Parents will be able to turn off data for children, or even for themselves, if they are concerned about blowing their monthly data budget.
