Attention sports lovers: Optus has announced a new deal with Seven Network that will bring you more live, data-free sports action - anywhere, anytime.
The telco will now partner with Seven to offer customers exclusive, unlimited on-demand streaming of three of the biggest upcoming sporting events: The 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, The 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, and the 2018 Australian Open.
Whether you're into tennis, athletics, swimming or skiing, you'll be able to cheer on your fave Aussies, live and uninterrupted, without affecting your mobile plan's data allowance. If you're a qualifying Optus customer, that means over 3000 hours of free sport direct to your smartphone - without the accompanying data fees.
Tennis fans will be able to select from up to 16 courts streamed live during the Aus Open, while Commonwealth Games watchers can pick from up to 14 events at any time. If you're holding out for Winter Olympics coverage, Seven will simultaneously stream 7 events at once - so you'll never miss out on your fave sport.
How can I watch?
To experience data-free coverage of Winter Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Australian Open events, you'll need to be on an eligible Optus postpaid plan. This includes Optus' 24-month My Plan Plus and My Plan Flex, 12-month My Plan Plus SIM only plans, or a 24-month My Mobile Broadband plan of $30 per month or more.
To stream your pick of live sports, you'll need to download Seven's new mobile TV apps: Olympics on 7, 7Comm Games, and 7Tennis. These apps will begin to be added to both the Google Play and Apple App stores starting December 18.
During your chosen event, simply view from the applicable Seven app, and all data used will be free and separate from the gigabytes included in your Optus plan.
More data-free sport options
Data-free live sport isn't new to Optus customers. The telco already provides unlimited streaming of selected sports - including Premier League matches - through its Optus Sport app and service, available free on eligible mobile phone and broadband plans.
Optus mobile customers can also enjoy data-free music streaming, data-free documentaries from Nat Geo, and data-free standard definition movies and TV through Netflix, Stan, Yes TV by Fetch, and more.
Want more sport? Telstra currently includes live, data-free coverage of NRL, AFL and netball matches on selected plans, while all OVO Mobile plans feature unlimited data-free streaming from Gymnastics Australia, Water Polo Australia, and various motorsports.
