New customers who sign-up to Telstra's $49 SIM-only "Mx" plan will now get a sizeable 25GB data allowance, up from the 10GB previously on offer.
In addition to 25GB per month, your $49 will get you unlimited talk and text and data-free Apple Music. You will however need to sign a 12-month contract.
(The below plan is the one you're after, following the "go to site" link will show the 25GB version)
Telstra's "Mx" moniker refers to online-only plans that don’t include over the phone or in-store support. Instead, you'll be expected to use the telco's online support tools, which include live chat, Facebook, and Twitter. Existing Telstra customers are excluded from the offer, but if you're on Telstra and out of contract, you could always try asking nicely on live chat.
The offer seems to be in response to Optus' new SIM-only promo, which include a 30GB-for-$40 plan, and a 100GB-for-$60 plan. Telstra's offer ends on March 26, one day after Optus' "data explosion" deal winds up.
While Telstra's promo doesn't offer quite as much data-per-dollar as competitors, it is one the cheapest ways to get a large amount of data on the Telstra network. Woolworths Mobile - also powered by Telstra - has a similar promotion going: if you sign up before April 15, you'll get 25GB for $50 per month, along with unlimited talk and text, and unlimited international text
