OPPO has a new flagship coming out and, oh it’s something to be seen. The Find X2 Pro boasts impressive cameras, battery life, and even the option of a sexy, orange vegan leather back.
Given OPPO describes itself as being ‘on the cutting edge’ of the 5G revolution, the Find X2 Pro is unsurprisingly a 5G handset - the second the company has brought to Australia. We don’t know exactly who’ll range the device yet or when you’ll be able to buy it, but we do know that the recommended retail price will be $1,599.
For a device that has pitted itself to rival the Samsung S20 family, there is an automatic saving of at least $400 right off the back when compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which starts at $1,999. But even beyond that, the Find X2 Pro has some interesting features to match.
Since everyone is a photographer of sorts these days, let's start with the cameras. The OPPO Find X2 Pro boasts a tri-camera setup of a 48MP primary lens, 48MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 13MP periscope telephoto lens capable of 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom..
The lenses are backed by a Sony IMX689 sensor which boasts a larger size and increased light sensitivity. This pretty much means that the OPPO Find X2 Night Mode will, theoretically be awesome, capturing more light in dark environments than on other smartphone cameras. Although we haven’t had the chance to actually test this out and see if it actually works yet, so the jury is still out. All around, the camera tied as number one on the DxOMark scale, with a total score of 124, so that’s definitely something..
Beyond that, the screen refresh is comparable again to the Galaxy S20 range, thanks to the 120Hz panel. This means the screen updates itself twice the amount that your typical screen will, resulting in a smoother transition as you scroll, or more detailed viewing in videos and gaming.
In terms of battery life, the Find X2 Pro is powered by a 4,260mAh cell. We don’t have estimated usage figures, but OPPO claims that the bundled fast charger can take it from 0-100% in 38 minutes.
As for the look and feel, the OPPO Find X2 Pro is sleek AF, especially in the orange, vegan leather version. The tactile feel of the material is splendid, with the added bonus that you won't have to worry about a shattered back screen. The wear and tear on the ‘leather’ is yet to be seen, but here’s hoping it holds up because that orange is a gorgeous addition. Even the ceramic backing feels nice, and isn’t especially important if you plan on chucking a case on it.
Other key specifications include a 6.7-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 865 processor, 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and IP68 water-resistance. The Find X2 Pro runs ColorOS 7.1, OPPO’s customised take on Android 10.
We hope to have a review of the OPPO Find X2 Pro in the coming weeks to let you know how it stacks up in real life. In the meantime, read our hands-on preview here.
