OPPO is once again selling Australia's cheapest 5G phone with the launch of the OPPO A54 5G, a $399 handset packed with next-generation connectivity. Previously, $499 was the lowest price you could get a 5G device for in Australia, which is what phones like the Moto G 5G Plus, Realme 7 5G, and Samsung Galaxy A32 5G launched at.
Other than 5G, the OPPO A54 5G offers the kind of specs you'd expect for its price. The complete rundown includes a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and 5,000mAh battery. The camera configuration is made up of a 48MP primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth lens.
Given the infancy of the 5G rollout, there's no need to rush out and own a 5G phone for the sake of owning a 5G phone. You won't get any benefits in the short term. 5G connectivity is a welcome bit of future-proofing, but we'll be curious to see how the OPPO A54 5G stacks up when you're not considering the next generation network.
You can get the OPPO A54 5G in a choice of Fantastic Purple or Fluid Black. Outright you'll find it at retailers like JB Hi-Fi, but if you'd prefer to get it on a plan, you can pick from Optus and Woolworths Mobile. Woolworths Mobile does not have access to Telstra's 5G network yet, however.
