Motorola One Macro

Motorola unveiled two new smartphones overnight and they're coming to Australia sooner than expected. In fact, the Motorola One Macro (pictured above) is available from today, with the Moto G8 Plus to follow on October 31.

The One Macro is the second Android One phone Motorola has brought to Australia. As with the One Vision - it's sibling device - it's focused on camera, albeit in a different way.

Motorola says it wants the One Macro to be the best camera experience you can get for under $300. We'll obviously have to test out the phone to see if it lives up to this claim, but here are the key camera features. The phone has three sensors: a 12MP primary camera, a 2MP depth lens, and the titular 2MP macro lens. When using the macro lens, you can take photos of a subject as close as 2cm away from the camera.

Key specifications for the Motorola One Macro include a 6.2-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek Helio P70 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Motorola One Macro is powered by Android One. Google directly assists manufacturers with updating Android One powered smartphones, which means they are guaranteed to see two major operating system updates (taking the One Macro through to Android 11) and three years of security updates.

The Motorola One Macro is available from today for $299. You'll find it at JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, and Motorola's own online store in a choice of "Ultraviolet" or "Spaceship Blue". Phone colour names got weird, hey?

Moto G8 Plus

The Moto G8 Plus is the latest in Motorola's G series, a range typically associated with bang-for-buck.

As with the One Macro, the biggest improvements you'll find in the Moto G8 Plus revolve around the camera. It has a 48MP primary lens with a night mode as in increasingly popular, a 16MP wide-angle lens, and a 5MP depth lens.

Other key specifications for the Moto G8 Plus include a 6.3-inch 1080p+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 4,000mAh battery.

Unlike the One Macro, the G8 Plus runs Motorola's version of Android, rather than Android One. This means Motorola is predominantly responsible for software and security updates, rather than Google.

The Moto G8 Plus will be available from October 31 for $499. You'll find it at Officeworks, The Good Guys, Mobileciti, and Motorola's own online store in "Cosmic Blue".

In addition, Motorola has cut the price of a few older phones. The Motorola One Vision is now $449, the Moto G7 Power is now $299, and the Moto G7 is $349 although it won't around much longer. The Moto G7 Plus is getting cut from the product range entirely.
