Telstra is currently offering a $5 per month discount on its Medium phone plan, bringing it down to $60 per month for your first year with the telco. The plan includes 80GB of data per month, and notably, is the telco's cheapest non-prepaid option if you want 5G connectivity.
In addition to 80GB of data, the plan also includes 30 minutes of international calls per month and unlimited standard international SMS and MMS to any destination.
After your first year is up, you'll go back to paying $65 per month. Since the plan is contract-free, you can always drop down to a more affordable plan.
This discounted plan can also be paired with a new smartphone. Here's a selection of devices in Telstra's range:
Once again, the discount only applies for your first year, so your final 12 months of your 24-month repayment term will be $5 per month more expensive.
This deal is available until March 29. It is available to both new and existing customers.
Here's how the deal compares to plans with a similar data allowance:
Telstra's discount coincides with Telstra replacing all of its postpaid plans with its new "Upfront" plans, regardless of whether you're after a SIM-only plan or new device. Instead of receiving a new bill with a two-week payment period, you'll now be automatically billed on a set day each month. This ostensibly makes Upfront plans more similar to prepaid.
Upfront plans have the same kind of inclusions as Telstra's previous range of postpaid plans, but do not currently support eSIM, and no longer include Telstra Air access. Customers on Upfront plans can however share their data allowances with other Upfront plans on the same account, up to a maximum of 10 plans.
Telstra plans to move all customers to Upfront plans within the next 18 months.
