Apple has confirmed it will hold its next online product unveiling on October 14 (4am AEDT), where it is expected to reveal the iPhone 12 family.
Four new iPhones are on the cards this year: the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. All are expected to sport 5G and a brand new design reminiscent of the latest iPad Pro. The iPhone 12 Mini is potentially the most interesting device out of the four, rumoured to be a much smaller handset with a 5.4-inch display. This would make it smaller than the iPhone 8, but a little larger than the iPhone 5.
Given the October 14 reveal, we'd expect pre-orders to kick off sometime on October 16 ahead of an October 23 release date. iPhone SE pre-orders started at 10pm earlier this year, so it wouldn't be surprising if Apple were to use a similar time slot for the iPhone 12 family. It's unclear whether all four iPhone 12 devices will go on sale at the same time, with some rumours pointing to a staggered launch, with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro going on sale first, ahead of the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max later in the year.
There are also rumours that Apple could use the event to unveil a new HomePod smart speaker - potentially a smaller one with a lower starting price -, a pair of over-ear headphones, and location tracking tags. It's also possible that Apple will unveil its first ARM-based Mac.
