Refurbished Samsung FAQs

You don't always need to fork out full price for a like-new device. Refurbished Samsung phones are pre-used phones that have been checked for quality and performance to ensure you're getting a product that works. Buying a refurbished phone from a retailer is generally safer than buying a second-hand phone from someone on Facebook Marketplace.

Is it worth getting a refurbished Samsung?

If you want a new Samsung Galaxy phone but don't want to spend over $1,000, then a refurbished phone is a good way to save.

For example, a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S24 with 256GB of storage will set you back $1,399 outright. You can get the same phone from reebelo in a "Premium" condition for just $1,000. That's a saving of over a third of the price.

While retailers may sell much older models you should be mindful of any available ongoing support that you could miss out on such as software and security updates. As an example, the S20 series apart from the FE edition are no longer supported with security updates and neither are the original Flip and Fold models.

Support for something like a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S23 should still receive updates through to 2028.

Cheap non-refurb Samsung phones

A refurbished phone isn't for everyone. If you still bristle at the thought of purchasing one you may want to consider a brand-new Samsung phone from the cheaper A-series of phones. If you pair it with a 36-month repayment plan from $53 per month.

What to expect from a preowned Samsung phone

Refurbished Samsung phone sellers typically carry out a range of tests before selling them to ensure a certain level of functionality. However, you shouldn't expect a brand new condition (although some refurbished units might come very close).

A refurbished Samsung phone is expected to:

Be a Samsung phone with genuine parts
Potentially have some superficial damage, such as scratches or scuffs
Have at least 80% battery health
Be wiped, with no data left over from previous owners

Most retailers use a grading system to indicate the level of wear and tear you can expect.

The same guidance applies to refurbished iPhones and refurbished iPads.
