Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Camera

The Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 share similar camera specifications on paper, but in practice, there is a clear winner. Both phones have a 50MP selfie camera, a 5MP macro lens, and a 12MP selfie camera. The key difference is the ultra-wide camera: the Galaxy A37 has an 8MP lens while the Galaxy A57 has a 12MP lens.
While this is close to identical, in our testing, we found the Galaxy A57 was more reliable. It was better able to handle challenging situations like low-light and moving subjects, while the Galaxy A37 could struggle with these. The Galaxy A37 camera setup isn't bad, but the Galaxy A57 gives you a better photography experience.

Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Connectivity
Both the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 have 5G connectivity, and support a single physical nano SIM as well as eSIM.
The main difference to note here is WiFi support. The Galaxy A37 only supports WiFi 6, while the Galaxy A57 supports the newer WiFi 6e standard. For most, this shouldn't matter. WiFi 6 speeds are still faster than most Australian internet connections.
Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Design
The Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 almost look identical. The only meaningful difference between the two phones is that the Galaxy A37 has a plastic frame while the Galaxy A57 has a metal frame. Despite the metal frame, the Galaxy A57 is 17g lighter and 0.5mm thinner. The Galaxy A37 still weighs just 196g, however, so it's not exactly a super-heavy phone.
The phones also come in slightly different colour choices: the Galaxy A37 is available in a choice of lavender or charcoal, while the Galaxy A57 is available in lilac or navy.
Both the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 are rated IP68 for water resistance. This means they can be submerged to depths of up to 1.5m for as long as half an hour.

Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Display
The Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 have identical displays: they're both 6.7-inch with a 120Hz refresh rate. The displays (and backs) on both phones are protected with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus. This is able to survive drops of up to two metres, and is double that of Gorilla Glass 7i, which is commonly found on other mid-tier devices.
Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Performance
Performance is a key difference between the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57. The Galaxy A37 pairs an Exynos 1480 chipset with 6GB of RAM, while the Galaxy A57 is powered by a faster Exynos 1680 chipset with 8GB of RAM.
In our testing, we found the Galaxy A37 to be an inconsistent performer. While we wouldn't call it sluggish, we wouldn't call it snappy either. Day-to-day usage was fine for the most part, but stuttering and hitches kept it from being a smooth experience. Similarly, the fingerprint reader took its time.
Conversely, the Galaxy A57 was much more reliable. We didn't experience any of the same performance issues when testing the Galaxy A57, and it was even able to handle more demanding games like Diablo Immortal without lag.
Both the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 will get six years of major operating system upgrades and six years of security updates.
Galaxy A37 vs. Galaxy A57: Battery
Both the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 have 5,000mAh batteries, but in our testing, the Galaxy A57 performed better. The Galaxy A57 was consistently able to get between six and seven hours of screen time per charge, while the Galaxy A37 achieved between five and six hours of screen time per charge. Both will comfortably last a full day of moderate usage, but the Galaxy A57 offers a better buffer.
Should you get the Galaxy A37 or Galaxy A57?
The Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 may have some common strengths like a durable build and extensive software support, but there's no denying the Galaxy A57 is the better of the two. For $150 more, you get snappier performance, a more reliable camera, and a longer-lasting battery. That's hard to argue with.
