Belong NBN Plans Review: The Verdict
Belong doesn’t have too much in the way of meaningful extras and it’s light on support pathways, but it does offer reasonable prices and competitive NBN speeds.
What we love
- Respectable download speeds
- Three main speed tiers
- 100% carbon neutral
What could be improved
- Upfront modem fee on new modems
- Minimal support options
Overall:
Belong is an NBN provider that keeps it simple. It doesn’t offer an entry-level NBN 12 plan and, likewise, those in FTTP or select HFC homes shouldn’t look to Belong for NBN 250 nor NBN 1000 plans. Still, for those after the more popular speed tiers available to most homes - namely, NBN 25, NBN 50 and NBN 100 - Belong is worth considering.

Belong NBN plans: Value
When we determine the value of a provider’s plans, we focus on typical monthly pricing instead of whatever promotional pricing they may be offering. We then use this typical monthly fee to offer a fairer idea of ongoing value in comparison to a provider’s self-reported typical evening download speeds.
Below is how Belong fares against other competing NBN 25 plans in our database:
And here’s how Belong’s NBN 50 plan looks next to the competition:
Finally, below is how Belong’s NBN 100 plan stacks up to competing plans:
For its NBN 25 plan, Belong follows the trend of offering 25Mbps download speeds, but there are cheaper alternatives from Tangerine and SpinTel, both of which also offer 25Mbps download speeds.
Step up to NBN 50 plan comparisons and Belong speeds start to drop below the 50Mbps standard, albeit still offering a respectable 48Mbps. That said, there are cheaper 50Mbps alternatives from SpinTel and Tangerine again, alongside Superloop, Kogan and TPG.
Additionally, there are several cheaper NBN 100 plans, too, but Belong’s 95Mbps download speeds levels out the playing field somewhat. That said, you can find cheaper, faster alternatives from SpinTel (100Mbps) and Superloop (95Mbps).
What are typical evening speeds?
Typical evening speeds refer to the NBN download speeds you can expect during the busiest hours of the day - typically between 7pm and 11pm - due to congestion.
Because of the way the NBN is designed, just paying for an NBN 100 plan doesn’t guarantee you’ll get those speeds the entire time. If you want great speeds during peak hours, you’ll want to look for a provider that reports high typical evening speeds.

Outside of promotional periods where Belong gives away its WiFi modem router for free, signing up for a Belong NBN plan tends to incur a $60 upfront fee (or $5 per month across a year) to cover the cost of the NBN-compatible Belong modem router. However, you do have the option to bring-your-own modem. Belong also notes that download speeds will be confirmed after FTTN, FTTB and FTTC homes are connected. Additionally, not all FTTN, FTTB, and FTTC may be able to sign up to Belong's NBN 100 plans.
Belong NBN plans: Support
We know that support experiences between people from the same provider can vary greatly. That’s why we don’t factor in personal experiences for this category. Our focus, instead, is on how many support pathways a provider offers: more options mean a provider has a greater investment in keeping its customers connected.
