When connecting to the National Broadband Network, you'll have a choice of four different speed tiers. If you've got the need for speed, you'll want an NBN 100 plan.
NBN 100 is the fastest widely available NBN speed tier - also known as NBN Premium, or Premium Evening Speed. If you sign-up to an NBN 100 plan, you can expected download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload speeds of up to 40Mbps.
However, even though all NBN providers resell access to the same network, their speeds might not be the same. An NBN 100 plan on Telstra might not be the same as an NBN 100 plan from Optus. The way in which providers buy capacity from NBN Co can affect the speeds you'll get.
This is especially true during busy periods, like at night when everyone is trying to binge Netflix at the same time. Thanks to the ACCC, NBN providers are disclosing the typical speeds you can realistically expect to get during busy hours - not just the NBN speed tier the plan is based on. These are referred to evening speeds.
If you're looking for a provider with consistently fast NBN 100 speeds, TPG, Aussie Broadband, and Vodafone have some of the best around.

Who are NBN 100 plans for?
NBN 100 plans offer download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload speeds of up to 40Mbps. Because of these speeds, NBN 100plans are best for a few different groups of people:
Larger families: It's important to note that your NBN speed is a shared resource. If you subscribe to an NBN 100 plan, your 100Mbps is shared between every person and device in your household.
For example, if you're streaming a movie on Netflix, the internet will technically be slower for everyone else using your connection at the same time. Faster NBN speeds mean there's more capacity to share: you can stream all the video you want and no one else will notice any slow-down.
Gamers: NBN 100 plans are great for downloading large files. Considering many new release games are now over 50GB, an NBN 100 plan could be a lifesaver if you prefer to buy your games online. Note: you don't need a fast NBN just to play games online - any NBN plan will do. Other factors, like latency, are far more important to the performance of a game than sheer download speed.
Office works: Since NBN 100 plans have faster upload speeds, they're a good choice for small and medium businesses. This is especially true for businesses that deal with large files daily, like video editors, architects and graphic designers.
NBN 100 speeds are also great if you want to keep regular offsite backups through services such as BackBlaze, OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, or Google Drive.
Want to save some money?
If you want to save a few dollars, you could try NBN 50. This option offers download speeds of up to 50Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20Mbps, is the best bang-for-buck option when it comes to NBN.
An NBN 50 plan is still plenty fast, and should be enough for most online activities whether it's streaming movies and music, online gaming, sharing memes and photos, or video calling with overseas friends and family.
