- Cheap ongoing prices
- Fast self-reported downloads
- Great customer reputation
Buddy Telco is a budget sub-brand of Aussie Broadband (being sold to Tangerine in the first half of 2026), and it offers a good selection of plans for most Australian homes and an NBN 1000 option for some. While not as popular as other NBN providers in our database, Buddy is a comparatively newer provider that does compete on price.
That's competitive in terms of typical pricing, mind, though Buddy does sometimes offer discounted monthly pricing or a first free month for new customers. As is the provider trend, Buddy Telco's plans are all no-contract offerings, so you can freely switch to another provider if a better deal comes along.
Given its comparative newness, Buddy Telco isn't featured in ACCC research or TIO data, but it does have a solid customer reputation online.
Buddy Telco's plans and pricing
While better prices come from limited-time discounts or first-month-free offerings, Buddy competes on typical pricing, making it a telco worth considering if you like to set and forget NBN providers. Here's an overview of Buddy Telco's charging practices:
- No connection fee (for standard connections)
- No early termination fees
- Occasional discounts
- Competitive typical monthly pricing
- BYO networking device or add an Amazon eero 6+ mesh system
At the time of writing, Buddy was celebrating its birthday with a $0 first month for new customers across its plans. Buddy has offered modest discounts in the past, which typically last for six months (a typical NBN provider trend). Even without a discount, Buddy Telco is one of the – if not the – cheapest NBN providers in our database for typical pricing on NBN 25, NBN 50, NBN 100, and NBN 1000 plans.
You can pay $0 additional fees if you bring your own NBN-compatible router, modem-router, or mesh WiFi system. Alternatively, buy an Amazon eero 6+ mesh WiFi system in single, two-pack, or three-unit configuration for an upfront fee or paid off over 12 months. Note that Buddy charges a postage cost if you opt to add on the eero 6+.
Standard NBN connections are free of charge, but Buddy notes that NBN Co may charge a $300 development fee for new premises. Buddy will let you know after sign-up if this extra development fee is required.
Here's a list of Buddy Telco's fixed-line NBN plans, ranked in terms of introductory price:
For comparison, here are other NBN plans from our database, ranked in terms of their introductory costs for the first six months:
Buddy Telco's internet speed
Buddy offers respectable speeds for its NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 100 plans (available to most homes), and it also has fast self-reported typical evening download speeds for its NBN 1000 plan.
ACCC results
While Buddy Telco isn't directly tracked by the ACCC, Aussie Broadband is. Considering both Aussie Broadband and Buddy Telco self-report identical speeds for their comparable speed tiers, Aussie's ACCC data is worth talking about here. Aussie Broadband was closer to the bottom than the top for download and upload speeds according to the ACCC's performance report from June 2025.
Still, all results were respectable: 101.1% for Aussie Broadband's download speeds during the busy hour and 99.4% during the busiest hour. For comparison, Telstra had the best downloads busy/busiest scores at 104.6% and 103.7%, respectively. For uploads, Aussie Broadband measured 88.4% speeds during the busy hour, which wasn't too far behind Exetel's leading 91.8%.
Typical evening speeds
Buddy Telco self-reports great speeds for its NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 100 plans, just 1Mbps behind the max potential download speed for each plan. Its NBN 1000 plan self-reports 875Mbps download speeds, which is one of the fastest in our database.
Self-reported upload speeds for Buddy NBN plans are good but not impressive, admittedly still fast enough to be practical.
Buddy Telco's NBN plan features
Cheaper ongoing pricing for Buddy Telco's NBN plans comes care of plans that don't have a lot of features.

Product Review star rating
Score: 4.2 stars
Product Review is a popular consumer-review website that uses a mix of star ratings and written reviews from verified customers. It's worth flagging that the results can be skewed positively or negatively. Negatively, because of human nature; we tend to go out of our way more to complain than praise. Positively (potentially), if there's a provider campaign associated with collecting user reviews. Admittedly, this is consistent across NBN provider reviews on Product Review, but take the star ratings with a grain of salt.
After 80 plus reviews – which isn't a lot compared to other providers with thousands – Buddy Telco has a 4.2 star rating. Of the 20+ providers we track in our database, Buddy Telco has equal sixth-best scores alongside Kogan Internet, More, and Tangerine.
There are higher Product Review star ratings from Swoop (4.8), Moose (4.6), Aussie Broadband (4.5), SpinTel (4.5), and Superloop (4.3). But Buddy Telco's rating is much better than the sub-two-star Product Review star ratings from AGL (1.8), TPG (1.8), Belong (1.7), Telstra (1.7 from over 2,100 reviews), Southern Phone (1.6), and Optus (1.5 from over 2,400 reviews).
Buddy Telco also scored the following categorised star ratings on Product Review: 4.4 on value for money, 4.3 on transparency, and 4.2 on customer service. Check out Buddy Telco's full report on Product Review here.
