Who doesn't love a good bundle deal, a classic two-for-one discount? Unfortunately they aren't that prevalent in the electricity, gas and internet realm.

Is it even cheaper to bundle your utilities? While bundling your internet with utilities can make your monthly broadband bill cheaper, but you can often achieve the same thing by simply switching to a cheaper internet, electricity and gas plan instead.

Right now, the opportunity to bundle your electricity and internet together is scarce but it does exist. There are a handful of Aussie retailers currently supplying power and internet services and giving discounts in the process.

Dodo is shaving $15 off your internet plan per month when you bundle one of its unlimited data NBN plans with either electricity and gas. Dodo's internet plans are also on the tend to be good value before and after any six-month discounts are applied.

This bundle is only available in states where Dodo sells electricity plans, including New South Wales, Victoria, South East Queensland, and South Australia. Dodo only sells gas plans in New South Wales and Victoria.

Did you know that Origin Energy also offers NBN plans? The popular energy provider offers internet plans for NBN and fibre connection types.

Origin's internet plans tend to be on the pricier side, but the bundled discounts make them more palatable. Customers bundling with any Origin energy service (electricity, gas, hot water or LPG) can get a $10 per month discount on their internet.

You can get the bundle when you first sign up or existing energy customers may opt to add an internet plan to their account. It's only available in states and territories where Origin sells energy plans, including New South Wales, Victoria, South East Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

All Origin internet plans are contract-free, and you can bring your own modem along to the plan. Plus, Origin typically throws in sign-up extras like Everyday Rewards points.

Bundle electricity and internet with AGL

AGL is another energy provider with its fingers in a few pies. It offers NBN internet and mobile plans in addition to electricity and gas. Get a $15 per month discount so long as you have an internet plan and one fuel type.

In terms of price, AGL's internet plans tend to be more expensive. The bundling discount really brings the cost down.

AGL's plans are no lock-in contract and you can BYO modem to save further. This bundle is only available in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Western Australian residents only have the option of signing up for gas.

Is bundling your electricity and internet worth it?

At this point in time, bundling your internet along with your utilities is probably only worth it in a few situations.

If you're already with any of these providers for your energy needs, then you can take a chunk off your monthly bill, but you could achieve the same thing simply by looking at cheaper providers in our NBN comparison engine.

Unlike a home phone and internet plan bundle, most providers don't even provide a single itemised bill, meaning you might not even save on admin time.

You also have to consider whether you're getting a good deal on electricity or gas. The best way to maximise your savings is to find the cheapest service for each utility and see how it compares to what you'd pay if you selected a bundle with one provider.

If you're looking to save money on your internet plan, it could be better to consider cheap internet deals instead.

What are other ways of reducing my internet, electricity or gas bill?

One of the best ways to reduce how much you spend on your utilities is to shop around for a better deal at least every 12 months. Energy prices change each year as part of a regulatory process. It's really as simple as waiting for the letter from your energy retailer that prices are going up and then starting the process to switch.

Most telcos increase the price of their internet plans in line with the consumer price index. With your internet bill, in particular, consider your needs. It may even be an option for you to switch to a lower speed tier and pay less.

What are the pros and cons of bundling your bills?

Whether bundling your bills is a good option for you will depend on what you prioritise; if that's convenience, then it can be a real time saver. However, if you prioritise saving money rather than time, it's usually not going to be the best option.

Save on another utility while you're already with the one provider
Receive a $10-$15 monthly discount
Can view all bills with one service provider

Cons

Bundling locks you into one provider where you otherwise might find a better deal on each plan individually
