Telstra will increase the price of most of its NBN plans from July 1, off the back of upcoming NBN Co wholesale pricing changes. As part of the changes, Telstra's NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 100 plans by between $3 and $4 per month.
Telstra's two fastest NBN plans will get a little cheaper, however. NBN 250 will get a $1 price cut, bringing it down to $129 per month, while NBN 1000 is dropping from $150 per month to $139.
Here's a comparison of the old and new plans:
| Speed Tier | Old Pricing | New Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| NBN 25 | $89 per month | $93 per month |
| NBN 50 | $105 per month | $109 per month |
| NBN 100 | $110 per month | $113 per month |
| NBN 250 | $130 per month | $129 per month |
| NBN 1000 | $150 per month | $139 per month |
These pricing changes will apply to new and existing Telstra customers. Customers on a current Telstra NBN plan will be charged the new amount from their first bill in July.
Since Telstra's price increase is based on changes to NBN wholesale costs that kick in on July 1, we're expecting to see a similar pattern across the industry. Telstra is the second major provider to detail its price increases, with Tangerine upping the price of its cheaper NBN plans by between $2 and $3 per month last week. As with Telstra, Tangerine decreased the price of its NBN 1000 plan.
While NBN prices may be getting more expensive, many providers are still offering honeymoon discounts: savings for new customers that tend to last between six months and a year. Most NBN plans are contract-free, so jumping between these discounted plans is the best way to lower your NBN bill
Here are the cheapest NBN plans in the WhistleOut database:
We'll continue to see more NBN providers detail their price increases as July 1 approaches.
Telstra is also putting up the price of its postpaid mobile plans on July 1.
