Tangerine is the first major NBN provider to increase its NBN plan prices ahead of NBN Co's wholesale price hike in July. The majority of Tangerine's NBN plans are now between $2 and $3 per month more expensive, but its NBN 250 plan is unchanged and its NBN 1000 got a little cheaper.
Here's the new pricing for Tangerine's NBN plans:
| NBN plan | New price | Old price | Price change |
|---|---|---|---|
| NBN 25 | $69.90 | $67.90 | $2 increase |
| NBN 50 | $84.90 | $82.90 | $2 increase |
| NBN 100/20 | $88.90 | $85.90 | $3 increase |
| NBN 100/40 | $92.90 | $89.90 | $3 increase |
| NBN 250 | $104.90 | $104.90 | No change |
| NBN 1000 | $119.90 | $124.90 | $5 decrease |
| Fixed Wireless Plus | $84.90 | $82.90 | $2 increase |
| Fixed Wireless Speedy | $88.90 | $85.90 | $3 increase |
| Fixed Wireless Superspeedy | $104.90 | $104.90 | No change |
Tangerine is still offering honeymoon discounts on all of its NBN plans, ranging from $15 and $25 per month. These discounts last for the first six months. Take a look at Tangerine's fixed-line NBN plans, inclusive of discounts, below:
And here are Tangerine's Fixed Wireless NBN plans:
Existing Tangerine customers will pay the new price from their first bill following today. Customers still in their honeymoon discount period will continue to receive their honeymoon discount, but the increase will be factored into their bill.
While Tangerine is the first major NBN provider to put up its prices this year, it won't be the last. The wholesale price of NBN plans will be going up between $0.68 and $1.71 per month from July 1, and historically, all providers have passed on this increase to their customers.
Based on Tangerine's changes, it wouldn't be surprising to see increases of between $2 and $3 per month on most plans.
NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans may once again be the exception. Last year, many providers cut the price on these faster plans, and Tangerine reducing the price of its NBN 1000 by $5 per month suggests this could be on the cards again.
We'll learn more as July 1 approaches.
