June 2018: The Virgin Mobile brand is being phased out and plans are no longer available to purchase. The information on this page refers to plan details before this announcement.
There are lots of great alternatives to choose from. Start by selecting one of the options below:
Virgin Mobile this week refreshes its high-value Prepaid plans, switching in title from Prepaid Caps to Prepaid Plus, and bolting on a bunch of extra data to justify the new naming.
The Prepaid Plus plans start with a $19 recharge and increase in price and value up to $99. The lowest price recharge comes with $100 included credit for calls and messages and a generous 500MB of data. If you’re a heavy phone user, the $99 comes with an oddly specific $1,850 credit and a huge 10GB of data to use within the 28 day expiry period.
Data has doubled on the $19 recharge — from 250MB to 500MB — but the real increases can be found on the higher priced plans. Before now, all Virgin Prepaid Caps from $29 and up included just 1GB of data. Now each plan has an incrementally better data inclusion depending on how much you choose to pay. Also, Virgin’s Data Rollover also applies, allowing customers to move up to 12GB of unused data from one month into the allowance for the next month, so long as they recharge their accounts before the credit expiry date.
Calls on all Prepaid Plus plans are charged at $0.90 per minute with a $0.40 flagfall, SMS messages are $0.25 each.. This means that a standard 2 minute calls costs $2.20, and that you can make 45 standard calls for each $100 of included credit — assuming you don’t send any SMS messages.
In truth, while the new Prepaid Plus recharge options are better value for existing Virgin Mobile customers, there are several better Prepaid deals, especially at the lower cost end of the market. Boost Mobile, Amaysim, Dodo and Aldi Mobile all have excellent $20 plans, where Dodo and Aldi will both let you use your credit for longer than the standard 28 day expiry period.
