Trade-in your phone when switching to Optus

We all love getting our hands on a brand new smartphone, but the last thing we need is yet another old smartphone gathering dust in a desk drawer or bedside table.

To help make your next upgrade guilt-free, Optus will pay up to $750 for your old smartphone when you sign up for a new phone plan before October 25.

The exact value of your trade-in will vary depending on which model you have and the condition it's in, but for what we've seen so far, the offers are reasonably generous. For example, an iPhone X 64GB is worth up to $450 in trade-in credit, while a Samsung Galaxy S9 is valued at $260.

The value of the trade-in is then applied to your new Optus account, after you've selected a new phone and plan.

All trade-in go through Optus' phone recycling partner, Alegre, who are responsible for the trade-in valuations and damage assessments. If your old phone is in excellent condition it may be refurbished and resold, or else it will be recycled for parts. A far better solution than sitting unused in your house somewhere.

If you have an old phone and would love to make it a new one, here is a few solid Optus deals to get you started.

The $89 Promo Plus plan is a really stand out if you're shopping for an iPhone 11. Optus offers 100GB of data each month, for $89 per month on a 36-month contract. If you wanted to upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro instead, you just need to add an extra $10 per month.

You'll notice that the cheaper plan options in our tables are on new 36-month contracts. Optus introduced the new three-year terms in September -- just in time for the launch of the new iPhones. This is definitely the cheapest way to buy a new phone on a plan, and you will find that phone repayments are waived entirely on several of these 36-month plans.
