Telstra will stop charging a Silent Line fee to customers who wish to keep their details out of the White Pages from February 18. At present, Telstra subscribers who wish to keep their home phone number private pay a fee of $2.93 per month.
Activating Telstra's Silent Line functionality will also remove caller ID from your number, so people won't be able to see your number when you call them.
"Protecting our customers' privacy is paramount to Telstra and providing tools to protect telephone numbers and addresses is part of what we do to help," said Telstra Group Executive for Consumer and Small Business, Vicki Brady.
"We understand privacy is important to all our customers, and that some Australians choose a Silent Line for a multitude of reasons including for personal safety."
In addition to cutting Silent Line fees, Telstra will add the feature to customers' online portals and the Telstra 24x7 app, in attempt to make it easier to turn on or off. This change will also come into effect on February 18.
If your turn on Silent Line functionality, Telstra says your information will be removed from the White Pages website and Directory Assistance within 48 hours.
