Telstra will now roll over unused calls and data for customers who choose its new Freedom Plus Prepaid plan.
The new plans come with three price tiers; $30, $40 and $50, each with increasing call credit and included data. A $30 recharge gets you $250 call credit and an oddly uneven 1.3GB of data. You get triple the call credit and 3GB data for $40, and the $50 option comes with 4GB and a whopping $1500 for calls.
A standard 2-minute call costs $2.17 on all plan options. All SMS messages are included the price of the recharge. See all the latest plans here.
If you don’t manage to burn through all your calls and data, Telstra will now roll over the unused inclusions into the following month, providing you recharge charge before the 28 day expiry on your original credit. Calls and data that roll over need to be used in the next month, or will expire.
This is a new feature for Telstra current range of plans, but it is far from an industry first. Optus also roll over data on Prepaid plans, and Virgin Mobile offer this feature on all plan — Prepaid and PostPaid.
If you need more calls and data, bolt-on Top Ups are available to purchase on top of the the recharge fee. Each top up comes with call credit to the value of the Top Up, plus extra mobile data.
These plan changes align Telstra extremely well next to its nearest competitors. It’s inclusions are a little lower, but the difference is far less distinct than it is on PostPaid plans.
Correction 9 September: this article previously stated that Freedom Plus Recharge Credit could be used to purchased Top Ups. This is incorrect and has been removed from the article.
