Optus 12-month SIM only plans now include data-free Netflix, Stan

It's been over a year since Optus added data-free Netflix streaming to selected postpaid mobile plans. But in an awesome New Year gift for SIM-only customers, you'll now get data-free TV and movie streaming on eligible Optus BYO phone plans.

Sign on for a 12-month Optus SIM-only plan, and you can stream all the Netflix, Stan, ABC iView, ABC ME, ABC Kids and special event sports content you want, 100% independently of your plan's data allowance. You'll still need a subscription to access Stan or Netflix, but you'll be able to binge data-free on your mobile anywhere, anytime.

Your unlimited data-free video streaming is only available on 12-month SIM-only plans, so month-to-month customers aren't eligible (although can still enjoy data-free music streaming from Spotify, Google Play Music and iHeartRadio). 'Fair go' policies apply, and customers should be aware that all video content is limited to standard definition and capped at a stream of 1.5Mbps.

Despite the fine print, it's an absolutely awesome free-of-charge perk for Optus customers, especially as number one rival Telstra only offers data-free streaming of Apple Music, AFL, NRL and netball. Even the Optus-owned Virgin Mobile doesn't include unpenalised video streaming in its postpaid plans, although you'll still get plenty of extras such as data-free music and rollover gigabytes.

What you'll get with Optus

Optus' 12-month SIM plans now join its 24-month mobile contracts as the best options for customers looking for great value entertainment extras. In addition to no-data video and music streaming, SIM-only plans also include unlimited talk and text within Australia, plus up to 50GB of monthly fast data (on the $60 per month option).

All plans over $40 per month also feature international inclusions. You'll get up to 300 minutes of standard calls to selected countries on the $40 plan, 400 minutes on the $50 option, and up to 500 international minutes on the aforementioned $60 deal.

With data inclusions such as 15GB, 30GB, and the above 50GB per month, Optus' SIM-only plans already have plenty to offer value-conscious customers hungry for more gigabytes. But with dataless Netflix and Stan now thrown in, you'll instead be free to burn through that 50GB on YouTube, gaming, podcasts, or Instagram.

Data-free video streaming is now available on all Optus 12-month SIM-only plans. For more info on Optus' bring-your-own-phone and My Plan options, start comparing below.
