HMD is apparently the Miley Cyrus of phone manufactures, and it can't stop (won't stop?) launching new Nokia-branded handsets. The manufacturer today announced local availability for the Nokia 5.1 Plus, marking the tenth handset HMD has brought to Australia this year.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus' key selling point is the processor: a MediaTek Helio P60. While there's nothing overly specially about this chip - it's a fairly standard midrange processor - you typically find it phones with a higher asking price than the $379 Nokia 5.1 Plus. For comparison, the OPPO R15 is also powered by the Helio P60, and it currently retails for $559.
Otherwise, the latest budget Nokia phone is fairly stock standard. You get an extra-tall notched display, two rear-facing cameras, and a glass back. It's pretty much what we've come to expect from almost any 2018 handset priced around $400 and up.
Key specifications for the Nokia 5.1 Plus include a notched 5.8-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 13MP + 5MP dual rear-facing cameras, and a 3,060mAh battery. It ships running the Android One variant of Oreo, but will be upgraded to Pie in the near future.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus will be available through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and Officeworks for $379 from November 2. If you're keen to pick one up, here's a couple of contract-free SIM-only plans to go with it:
