HMD Global - the maker of Nokia phones - is launching its cheapest Android One powered handset yet: the $249 Nokia 3.1. The Nokia 3.1 succeeds last year's Nokia 3, but it's quite an iterative update. The biggest changes are the extra-tall 18:9 display and the move to Android One.
Android One is an unmodified version of Android maintained by Google rather than the device manufacturer. Google promises that all Android One devices will get at least two years of major operating system updates and regular security updates.
Key specifications for the Nokia 3.1 include a 5.2-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek MT6750 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 2,990mAh battery. It is however missing a fingerprint reader.
JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman will both have the Nokia 3.1 in a choice of black or white from August 2. Harvey Norman will also range the phone in blue.
