The latest Huawei Mate phablet is soon to be on the shelves of Vodafone stores across Australia.
Pricing will start from $15 per month on a $40 Red Plan with full pricing to be announced closer to the launch day on 24 May.
This single price point does suggest that the Mate 8 should be significantly cheaper on Vodafone plans than other large screen phones. Apple’s iPhone 6s Plus 16GB is currently priced at $45 per month on a $40 Red Plan, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is $32 per month on the same plan. The Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P is $20 per month.
To sweeten the deal Vodafone is also offering the first 2-months free for customers who buy a Huawei Mate 8 before 5 July 2016.
This lower price isn’t indicative of what you can expect from the handset, however. The Mate 8 certainly looks and feels like a phone in the same premium bracket that you will find the iPhone and Samsung’s Note. Huawei encases the phone in an attractive stainless steel body and includes great 6-inch Super LCD display.
Despite the larger screen, the Mate 8 is almost exactly the same size as the iPhone 6s Plus which comes with a 5.5-inch screen.
The handset packs in a Sony 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation and a Huawei-designed Kirin processor and 3GB RAM.
But the real showstopper is a 4000mAh battery which Huawei believes is capable of 2-days of use between charges.
The Mate 8 will be in Vodafone stores next week, as well as electronics retailers with an outright price tag of $899.
