Good deal: 50% off OVO prepaid recharges

OVO is hoping to woo new customers by slashing the price of its prepaid plans. If you sign up before the end of May and turn on auto-recharge, you'll get 50% off your first three recharges.

Discounted pricing is as follows:

$4.98: 1GB, unlimited text, $200 talk
$9.98: 2GB, unlimited text, $500 talk
$14.98: 5GB, unlimited talk and text
$17.48: 10GB, unlimited talk and text
$24.98: 19GB, unlimited talk and text

OVO prepaid recharges last for 30 days.

OVO's deal is only available to new customers, and only applies to phone SIMS; data-only and mobile broadband plans aren't part of the promotion.

The promotion makes OVO's plans some of the most competitive prepaid options around, but of course, there is the caveat that you only get the discount for your first three months. If you're okay with signing a 12-month contract, you've got the potential to get better value in the long term.

For example, Jeenee Mobile is currently offering 10GB of data for $22.50 per month. This will set you back $280 over 12 months, whereas as going with OVO will cost $366.99 for the same period. Of course, the flexibility of prepaid is a worthwhile bonus, as you can always switch to a different plan or provider if a better deal comes around.
