Vodafone MVNO felix mobile is the latest telco to offer 5G network access to all its customers.
5G networks can increase speeds, improve latency (the time it takes for data to travel). and reduce congestion on the network. At the same time, felix's 25GB and 50GB plans which previously had no speed caps will now be limited instead to 150Mbps.
This means 150Mbps is the maximum speed your mobile connection will be able to achieve, you can think of it as being faster than an NBN 100 plan. Although, it's no guarantee that your service will hit those speeds.
Its original, unlimited data plan which also gets access to 5G retains its speed cap of 20Mbps.
Here are felix's mobile plans, now including 5G:
Mobile data speeds caps are a relatively new practice among telcos although felix is one of the first Vodafone network providers to include them. At present Lebara is the only other Vodafone MVNO with speed caps and 5G.
felix broke away from its one plan philosophy late last year when it initially introduced its 25GB and 50GB plans. These plans have speeds capped to 1.5Mbps speeds once your data allowance is used up.
Here's how felix's plans compare to other 5G plans with at least 25GB or 50GBs of data:
To use 5G you'll need a 5G-capable phone. As for 5G coverage, Vodafone says its footprint covers 85% of the population in Australia's ten largest cities. Optus and Telstra boast larger 5G footprints. Optus reports coverage for 80.5% of the Australian population with Telstra's 5G network leading on 85%.
