Boost customers will enjoy a huge boost in speed from September 29, gaining access to the Telstra 4G network.
Boost will be the first Telstra-powered telco to receive the network upgrade, and will be able to offer customers speeds between 2 and 50Mbps, depending on coverage and various other network considerations.
While this is a big upgrade from Telstra 3G, it isn’t the fastest network Telstra offers its own customers. Telstra launched 4GX at the end of last year, with speeds up to 300Mbps, then this week confirmed it would double this to 600Mbps with yet another upgrade.
To celebrate its admission into the 4G club, Boost is going to double its current Sunday Bonus Data promotion, giving customers 2GB to use each Sunday on top of the regular 3GB of data included in its $40 ULTD recharge, and 1GB for a $20 ULTD recharge. If $40 customers take full advantage of the bonus Sunday data, they will get 11GB each month.
The timing of this launch for Boost, a Telstra retail partner, gives it a head start over MVNOs with Telstra wholesale arrangements, namely Telechoice, AldiMobile, Woolworth’s and newcomer MeU Mobile. The other providers won’t be far behind though, with Telechoice confirming that it is lining up 4G services for the first quarter of next year.
In the meantime, no contract customers who want to test out Telstra 4G can compare current Boost Mobile plan options here.
