Despite store closures, Apple announced that its new workout headphones - the fourth generation Powerbeats - are on sale today.
Boasting the same audio, and earbud design as Powerbeats Pro, the new device touts a neckband, longer battery life, and a lower cost, coming in at $219.95. With the same sleek earpiece design, the new device is still sporting an active aesthetic, although the neckband is an interesting throw back to the wireless headphones from yesteryear.
While Powerbeats aren't wire-free, the corded design cuts $130 from the price when compared to Powerbeats Pro, so it’s hard to fault the concept, and makes the Powerbeats a good alternative for those after a slightly more affordable pair of workout buds.
Using Apple’s “H1” chip, also seen in AirPods and previous Powerbeats products, so you'll get painless pairing with iOS devices, and hands-free access to Siri.
The headphones are advertised with a 15-hour battery life, which is six hours more than Powerbeats Pro, and a solid ten hours more than AirPods. Of course, the Powerbeats Pro and AirPods can both get extra battery life from their charging cases, while you don't have the option with the Powerbeats. Instead, you'll use a charging cord and find a fabric carry case in the box.
You’ll still get all the sweat-resistant power of the previous device as it maintains it’s IPX4 water resistance rating.
Powerbeats are available in black, red and white from Apple today.
If this next generation device is anything like the Powerbeats Pro then we’re genuinely excited. But the real question is, do the red headphones really do make you run faster?
