amaysim has pipped Huawei at the post, launching the manufacturer's new flagship handsets ahead of their official Australian release. The budget telco is selling the P20 and P20 Pro from today through its online tech store, with orders set to ship out in three-to-six days.
Of course, the P20 models amaysim has on offer aren't local stock, which means they won't come with an official Australian charger. amaysim tends to bundle an Australian adapter when needed, though. amaysim also includes a two-year local warranty with direct import devices. You can read more about the pros and cons of imported smartphone models here.
If you're keen to take the plunge and get in early, amaysim is offering the P20 and the P20 Pro for $975 and $1,195 respectively. You can part with one lump sum up front, or pay your phone off over 12 or 24 months. If you grab either device before the end of April, amaysim will throw in three free mobile plan renewals. amaysim's standard plans are as follows:
The big new feature on the Huawei P20 Pro is three fear-facing cameras, co-branded with luxury camera manufacturer Lecia. The camera array is made up of 40MP primary lens, a 20MP monochrome lens, and 8MP telephoto lens. The 40MP lens can be used to take massive photos, but by default, the P20 Pro will combine data from adjacent pixels to create a clearer, brighter 10MP image. The monochrome lens is used for depth estimation to simulate bokeh, and the fine detail and lower noise levels are said to improve image quality when zooming and in low light. Lastly, the 8MP telephoto lens is the equivalent of 3x optical zoom, or can be used for 5x hybrid zoom in combination with the other cameras.
We've spent a little hands on time with the P20 Pro's camera, and it certainly delivers in terms of low light photography. Here are a couple of samples:

The regular P20 Pro doesn't have quite as fancy a camera, but shares most of the same internals. Here are the specs for both phones:

UPDATE (April 20, 2018): Huawei has confirmed that the Huawei P20 Pro will officially launch in Australia on May 18. You'll be able to grab it in a choice of black or twilight (the stunning cyan to purple to gradient). Huawei has yet to confirm local availability for the smaller P20, but says more information will follow.
"The locally available Huawei P20 Pro will be certified to all relevant Australian certifications and standards including: warranty, safety, software and radio frequency (carrier spectrum)," said a Huawei Australian spokesperson. "We advise customers to consider the products they purchase and variants they source."
