Got an old phone you want to ditch for a shiny new one? Vodafone today launched a "Trade Up & Save" program where customers can bring in an old smartphone and have a credit applied to their account when signing up for a new plan.
To take advantage of this, you'll need to head into a Vodafone store and you have your old device assessed. In addition, the phone you're trading in has to be in good working order. This means the screen must be undamaged, the phone needs to turn on, and the exterior needs to be free from major cosmetic damage.
Trade-in value will depend on your device; newer models are understandably worth more. Here's a look at what trade-in value could be like for a few popular phones:
- iPhone 8 64GB: $300
- iPhone 8 Plus 64GB: $400
- iPhone 7 32GB: $170
- Samsung Galaxy S9 128GB: $300
- Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB: $180
- Google Pixel 2: $120
- OPPO R11: $50
You'll want to head into a Vodafone store to get an exact figure though. It's also definitely worth checking out what your phone is selling for eBay, because it some cases, these figures are a little low. Used iPhone 8s are still going for around $600 on eBay, for example.
Vodafone has previously run trade-in offers for specific phones such as the Galaxy S10, but the launch of Trade-In & Save expands the program to Vodafone's entire range.
Vodafone also launched three plans today:
- A $55 per month plan with 90GB and data that never ends,
- A $65 per month plan with 125GB, data that never ends, and unlimited international minutes for Zone 1 countries
- A $45 per month per month with 50GB for students
All three plans can be bought with or without a new phone, but the student offer is only available until August 20. Here's a look at Vodafone's SIM-only plans:
In addition, Vodafone is offering two months of free service with any new smartphone if you pick one up before June 21.
