Commencing on February 19 and running for four days, Vodafone will be offering free overseas calls to select countries for its post-paid customers to help ring in the year of the Sheep. Said countries are: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
This isn’t the first freebie Vodafone has thrown its customers lately. Recently it announced unlimited weekend data for its prepaid customers and free calls to China, the UK, US, India and NZ until April 26.
There’s also bonus data for students until March 31 and the big announcement that it will be bringing shared plans to Australia in the first half of this year.
You can even get a complimentary subscription to either Spotify Premium or the SMH on some of Voda’s plans.
Vodafone and international calls
Vodafone says that more than 40% of its customers were born overseas, so this Chinese New Year promotion, coupled with its free overseas calls to select countries on weekends for prepaid customers, should both make its subscribers happy.
On top of this, Vodafone already offers $5 a day roaming on its Red Plans, as well as 300 minutes of international calls each month.
No other major carrier is currently so globally-focused, which may end up proving favourable for Australia’s #3 carrier when it comes to winning back its market share.
