Telstra today launched a new version of its ruggedised smartphone pitched directly at tradies, construction workers, miners, and farmers.
Dubbed the Telstra Tough Max 2, the ZTE manufactured handset is all about resilience. It has a Gorilla Glass display to defend against cracks, IP67 dust and water-resistance, and is rubberised for drop protection.
Telstra's head of consumer postpaid mobiles, David Hunt, said that 70% of damage issues customers reported in 2017 were a result of drops or bumps.
"We know that phone durability and breakages are a pain-point, not only for tradies but for many smartphone users, so Telstra has worked together with ZTE to produce the Telstra Tough Max 2 and hopefully provide a solution for those customers looking for a hard wearing phone," said Hunt.
The Telstra Tough Max 2 is also Blue Tick certified for regional coverage, and has an external RF antenna port for customers who struggle with coverage.
Other key specifications include a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 435 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 16MP rear-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery.
The Telstra Tough Max 2 is available now. On a 24-month contract, it starts at $66 per month with 2GB of data and unlimited talk and text. If you'd prefer to pick it up outright, the recommended retail price is $432. At $432, the Telstra Tough Max 2 could also be a reasonable choice for young teenagers prone to breaking their phones.
The complete range of Telstra Tough Max 2 plans is as follows:
The Telstra Tough Max 2 is available direct through Telstra and through JB Hi-Fi.
