Telstra will diversify its gaming portfolio by offering PlayStation 5 consoles on a plan from March 26. Telstra has had a long-standing relationship with Xbox which will continue; PlayStation 5 will just be added into the mix.
Customers will have the option of buying a PlayStation 5 outright, or on a 12- or 24-month interest-free repayment plan. No matter what you pick, the total price ends up being roughly the same, within a matter of cents.
For example, the PlayStation 5 Slim will set you back $799 outright, or $66.58 per month on a 12-month plan, or $33.29 on a 24-month plan. Multiplied out over the period of time, those repayments come to 798.96.
Telstra will also be ranging the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition for $679, and the PlayStation Portal for $329. Both are available on 12-month and 24-month repayment terms too.
Vodafone also sells the PlayStation 5 Slim on a plan, but also offers a 36-month repayment term. This means customers pay $22.22 per month.
No matter whether you buy a PlayStation 5 through Telstra or Vodafone, the main benefit is not having to pay the full price of the console upfront. There aren't any perks or value adds, like Telstra used to offer with Xbox All Access where Game Pass was bundled in.
You don't need to be a Telstra mobile or NBN customer to buy a PlayStation 5 on one of its plans.
