Tangerine Telecom has made a name for itself with cheap NBN plans, and is now backing that up with double data on its SIM-only plans.
Four of the provider’s six postpaid plans now come with double their usual data allowance for your first six months. After that, your data allowance will revert back to normal.
Excluding the two ineligible plans, you can get between 44GB for $24.90 and 200GB per month for $49.90. Any unused data up to a total of 500GB will go straight into your Databank to use in case you run out of data later on down the line. Note that these plans are all contract-free, but if you decide to drop down to a cheaper plan you'll lose any banked data.
These plans use the Telstra wholesale network, include unlimited international calls to 15 destinations, and have capped 4G speeds of 100Mbps. You’ll find similar inclusions across most other Telstra-powered providers at a similar price. Here is how Tangerine’s $24.90 plan compares to other Telstra MVNOs at around the $25 per month mark.
Generally, every Telstra MVNO comes with access to the Telstra Wholesale network which covers 98.8% of the Australian population, with Boost Mobile as the exception using the full Telstra network. Each provider also offers data banking, and some international calls and/or texts with their plans. Destinations, and inclusions can vary, however - some providers may offer international texts while others exclusively offer calls.
Most plans on the Telstra network exclusively use the 3G and 4G network, but some providers such as Belong, numobile, and Exetel have 5G plans available as well. Note that these plans require a 5G compatible device, and have capped speeds. Right now a slew of providers are also offering a free trial to the Telstra 5G network on selected plans until February 2023.
