The budget 5G market continues to expand, with TCL today announcing the local launch of the TCL 20 R 5G. Priced at $349 outright, the TCL 20 R 5G ties with Samsung's Galaxy A22 5G for the title of Australia's cheapest 5G phone.
The hardware is in line with what you'd expect from a budget phone, with key specs including a 6.52-inch 720p+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor, 64GB of expandable storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 4,500mAh battery. On the back you'll find three rear-facing cameras: a 13MP primary lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth lens.
The TCL 20 R 5G is available from today in a choice of granite grey or lazurite blue. You'll find it outright at Harvey Norman, Officeworks, and Mobileciti.
Vodafone will be ranging the TCL 20 R 5G on a plan shortly, where you'll be able to get it for just $299 (divided by the length of your repayment term). Of course, this means you'd still be looking at around $52.50 per month on Vodafone on a 24-month term. If you buy outright, the extra $50 you'd spend on the value of the phone could easily be offset by getting a cheaper SIM-only plan.
