Samsung has confirmed it will reveal its new Galaxy S22 phones via an online event in just under a fortnight. The event will kick off at 10am ET on February 9, which converts to 2am AEDT on February 10 for anyone hoping to watch along from Australia.
As is par the course, we already know a lot of what to expect thanks to the rumour mill. Samsung is once again launching three phones: the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ look almost identical to their predecessors, but should have a slightly smaller screen. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are expected to measure in at 6.1-inch and 6.55-inch, respectively. For comparison, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22+ were 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch phones.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 Ultra looks a whole lot more like a Note, rather than last year's Galaxy S21 Ultra. The most noticeable change is a squarer body paired with a wider screen. The top and bottom have been flattened out, and there's integrated S Pen storage. Last year's Galaxy S21 Ultra supported the S Pen, but it was an optional extra and there was nowhere to stow the stylus without forking out for a case.
Samsung has also been teasing greatly improved lowlight photography in the lead up to its reveal event, but it's unclear whether this will apply across the board, or be exclusive to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is once again expected to have the best camera configuration of the three phones.
We're expecting the Galaxy S22 family to be available for pre-order shortly after Samsung reveals the phones. A February 25 release date has been rumoured, but fine print on the Samsung Australia website (related to a pre-registration offer) suggests pre-orders will run until March 3. This would suggest a March 4 release date.
If you pre-register your interest, you'll get Samsung Care+ for free if you pre-order the new devices.
