Samsung event teaser

Samsung will reveal its next generation foldables on July 26, with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 presumably on the cards for this year. The event will take place at 9pm AEST, with pre-orders likely starting right after or the following morning.

The July 26 date puts the reveal earlier than in previous years; Samsung's foldables have been unveiled in August. As such, we could also see the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in customers' hands earlier.

Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were revealed on August 10 ahead of a September 2 release date.

The key rumour for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a much larger external display, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be thinner and lighter. Both phones are expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and to fold fully flat, eschewing the gap on previous models.

This time around, Samsung will be releasing its new devices in a much more contested foldable market. OPPO has launched its Find N2 Flip in markets outside of China, while Motorola is heavily undercutting the competition with its recently announced $999 Razr 40. Google has also gotten into the foldable game with the Pixel Fold, but this isn't currently available in Australia.

Samsung is also expected to reveal the Galaxy Tab S9 family of tablets.

While pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed, it's a safe bet that Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone will all be offering both devices on mobile plans. We'll likely also see pre-order bonuses for customers who get in early. For example, we saw double storage offers, free Galaxy Watches, gift vouchers, and discounts during Galaxy S23 pre-orders at the start of this year.
