It's official: Samsung has revealed its flagship phones for 2022: the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and thank dog, they haven't gotten any more expensive.

The trio naturally succeed last year's Galaxy S21 family and are either a minor upgrade or major change, depending on what model you're looking at. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are dead ringers for their predecessors. The most significant change is a new 50MP primary camera, and both phones are also a touch smaller than last year's models.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is now ostensibly a Galaxy Note, borrowing from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra's design. The S Pen is integrated directly into the phone's body, and you get a squarer body with a wider screen. The top and bottom have also been flattened out. On the back, individual lenses protrude from the phone's body instead of a camera bump.

For the most part, S22 pricing is identical to what you'd pay for a Galaxy S22 last year. There are two exceptions: the 256GB Galaxy S22 Ultra is $50 more expensive, and there's a new 1TB Galaxy S22 Ultra that will set you back $2,449. The 1TB model is however exclusive to the Samsung online store.

Here's the complete outright pricing the for Galaxy S22 range:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 (128GB): $1,249
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 (256GB): $1,349
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+ (128GB): $1,549
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+ (256GB): $1,649
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (128GB): $1,849
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (256GB): $1,999
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (512GB): $2,149
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (1TB): $2,449

Before we get stuck into the nitty-gritty, here are the important details You'll be able to pre-order all three Galaxy S22 devices from 7am today ahead of a March 4 release date. You can pre-order on a plan from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, and Woolworths Mobile, or outright from major retailers including Samsung, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is easily the most interesting phone in the Galaxy S22 family, mostly for the fact it touts an S Pen. While the Galaxy S21 Ultra was compatible with the S Pen, it was an optional extra and didn't have integrated storage within the phone's body. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is ostensibly a Galaxy Note by another name.

S Pen aside, the Galaxy S22 Ultra also stands out thanks to its camera configuration. It once again features a 108MP primary camera, albeit with larger pixels and "Super Clear Glass" to reduce lens flare, joined by a 12MP ultra-wide lens, 10MP 3x zoom lens, and 10MP 10x zoom lens. This time around, Samsung is pointing to improved low light performance when it comes to both photos and videos. On the front, you'll find a 40MP selfie camera, which dwarfs the 10MP sensor on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is also the biggest phone in the family, featuring a 6.8-inch display. This also translates to a larger 5,000mAh battery.

Notably, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will get four years of major operating system updates, an increase from the three years Samsung previously offered. Google only offers three years for its flagship Pixel smartphones.

Outright pricing for the Galaxy S22 Ultra is as follows:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (128GB): $1,849
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (256GB): $1,999
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (512GB): $2,149
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (1TB): $2,449

The 1TB model is exclusive to the Samsung online store.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available in a choice of black, white, burgundy, and green. There are also three colours exclusive to the Samsung online store: red, light blue, and grey. These exclusive colours are made to order, so Samsung says to expect three to four weeks extra for delivery.

Pre-orders start at 7am AEDT today ahead of a March 4 release date.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+

Samsung Galaxy S22+

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are pretty similar to last year's models in terms of appearance, featuring the same kind of camera bump that spills over into the phone's frame. The pair are slightly smaller, however, measuring in at 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch, respectively. For comparison, the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21+ were 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch phones.

Camera configuration is the biggest difference, with the pair both featuring a 50MP primary lens, up from 12MP last year. This is joined by a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP 3x zoom lens. As with the S22 Ultra, Samsung claims the standard Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ deliver much better low light photo and video performance.

Oddly, both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ feature a 300mAh smaller battery than their predecessors. You'll find a 3,700mAh cell in the Galaxy S22 and a 4,500mAh cell in the Galaxy S22+. Samsung is promising all-day battery on the phones thanks to a more efficient processor, but in our testing last year, we were pretty disappointed by the Galaxy S21 battery.

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ will also get four years of major Android operating system updates.

Outright pricing for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ is as follows:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 (128GB): $1,249
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 (256GB): $1,349
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+ (128GB): $1,549
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+ (256GB): $1,649

You can grab both phones in a choice of black, white, green, or pink. Samsung is also making four other colours available exclusively through its online store: violet, light blue, grey, and cream. These are made to order, however, and have an approximate delivery time of three to four weeks.

Pre-orders start at 7am AEDT today ahead of a March 4 release date.
