If you're looking at Samsung's 2022 phones, the Galaxy S22 Ultra that's ostensibly a Galaxy Note by another name. It's the manufacturer's crown jewel, not only featuring the best camera configuration out of the three phones, but the biggest display, and an integrated S Pen.

This page focuses on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but you can find more about the other new Samsung phones here:

How much does the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra cost in Australia?

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is naturally the most expensive phone in the Galaxy S22 family, starting at $1,849 for a 128GB model. Notably, the 256GB model is $50 more expensive than last year, and there's a new 1TB option for $2,449. You can only get the 1TB model direct from Samsung's website, however.

Here's pricing for the entire family:

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Design

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is a big deviation from last year, with the phone looking a lot more like a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra than the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The most noticeable change is a squarer body paired with a wider screen. The top and bottom have been flattened out, and there's integrated S Pen storage. The Galaxy S21 Ultra supported the S Pen, but it was an optional extra and there was nowhere to stow the stylus without forking out for a case.

The back of the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out from the rest of the family. Instead of a camera bump, the individual lenses protrude from the phone's body.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is once again a step above its siblings when it comes to camera. The primary lens is a 108MP shooter, albeit with 1.23 times larger pixels than the S21 Ultra. Other lenses include a 12MP ultra-wide lens, 10MP 3x optical zoom lens, and a 10MP 10x optical zoom lens.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Battery Life

The Galaxy S22 Ultra includes a 5,000mAh battery - the same as last year's model.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Processor

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in Australia, as with the rest of the Galaxy S22 family.

Choosing a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra plan

With the WhistleOut search tool, you can compare Galaxy S22 Ultra pricing and inclusions across every provider. But there's a lot more to plans than just cost and data. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.

Telstra

Telstra Galaxy plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks. These include:

  • Data-free access to Apple Music
  • Access to the Telstra Plus perks and rewards program

Telstra lets you pay your Galaxy off over 12 or 24 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.

Optus

Optus Galaxy plans come with solid data inclusions and entertainment extras. Most Optus Galaxy plans includes:

  • Free access to Optus Sport until August 1, after which you'll be able to keep using the service at a discounted rate
  • Discounted movie tickets for Hoyts cinemas

Higher-end Optus Samsung plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.

All Optus plans are contract-free, devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months, and you can customise inclusions like roaming and international calls on a month-to-month basis.

In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.

Vodafone

Vodafone Galaxy plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they do offer a lot of flexibility. Like Telstra and Optus plans, Vodafone plans are contract-free on the basis that you can leave at any time without penalty. You'll just need to pay out the remaining value of your handset.

You can also step up or down in plan inclusions up to once per month, and ease the burden of ever-rising phone prices by paying off your handset over 12, 24 or 36 months. You'll pay the same overall for your Galaxy no matter which option you pick.

Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped to 2Mbps and 10Mbps, depending on how much you're spending per month. The higher your bill, the higher your capped data speeds. Vodafone also has a truly unlimited plan, with one slight catch - you'll only get 30GB of data for hotspotting each month.

You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.

Woolworths Galaxy plans may not come from a big name telco, but there are other perks.

To start, Woolworths Mobile also offers up to 300GB Data Banking for your excess data. Anything of your data allowance that you don't use will roll over to the next month. You can have up to 300GB of data in your data bank at any time.

Customers can also gift spare data to other Woolworths Mobile users.

Woolworths Mobile customers can also get 10% off their Woolworths grocery shop once per month.

Woolworths Mobile is powered by the Telstra network, but at present, does not have access to 5G.
